New Home Orientation

My husband and I had our new home orientation yesterday.  It was amazing to see everything finished and ready for us to move in.  Our PM was away on mandatory RH training but someone on his team filled in so we didn't have to reschedule.  We walked through every space in the house and talked about the features and maintenance.  It was a ton of information but at the end we got a binder that covers everything.

We also marked anything that needed to be corrected with blue tape.  After the meeting was done we were allowed to stay in the house and we were given more blue tape in case we noticed anything.  Everything we saw was pretty minor.  We also took a bunch of pictures as we were walking around.

We received our final approval from NVR!

We have one week to go until closing, and we just got our final approval from NVR.  I knew we would be approved but it's still such relief!  We have our New Home Orientation on Wednesday, and everything should be all set to close on Monday.  This is so exciting!

Construction Update - Week 16

Construction is complete on our house.  All inspections are done, and the crew is just working a few touch-ups inside.  We have our new home orientation on Wednesday and we can't to walk into our completed home!  We close in a little over a week and move in two weeks.  This is our first home and I still can't believe this is all really happening.  I feel so lucky to be getting such a nice place to call home.  It's amazing!

I'll post another update with pictures after our orientation.

Mentally furnishing our home

My husband and I are less than two weeks from closing now, and we are so excited.  It is to the point where we talk about the house all the time, so I've started planning what furniture to buy after we close (and pinning like crazy).  Luckily, we close on May 18th shortly before Memorial Day weekend so we're hoping to get some really good deals.  As of right now here is what I'm thinking for each room.

Laundry Room
I'm currently leaning towards the Maytag Bravos XL set, but we'll see what is on sale then decide.

Rec Room
Since we went with such beautiful dark flooring, we want to add some color to our rec room.  Right now we really want to get these pieces from West Elm, but we'll wait until there's a sale.

Main Floor
We are using existing furniture on the main floor, but we are planning to get a new light fixture for the morning room (pictured below) and the living room.  We haven't decided on the fixture for the living room yet.  We also are going to get these new stools from Target for our island.

Master Bedroom
For our master bedroom we have been eyeing the West Elm Stria line.  We'll probably get a king bed, 2 night stands, and one long dresser.

That's all we've picked out for now but I'll update when I get more ideas.

Construction Update - Week 15

This week our landscaping was complete and the crew started on the exterior paint. Next week there are a few inspections scheduled including the final 3rd party inspection for aesthetics. Everything is coming together for our New Home Orientation on the 13th.

Here's an updated picture of the front of our house.

Beginning to Plan Our Move

We're getting really excited for the big move into our new house in a few weeks!  Since it's not too far off I have started making my moving to-do list.  I decided to post it here in case it helps anyone or in case I missed anything.  So here it is:

  • Look into pricing for movers
  • Decide on a moving company and schedule before they book up
  • Look into cable/internet options
  • Schedule cable/internet installation
  • List unwanted furniture for sale on craigslist
  • Change address with USPS, work, banks, etc
  • Change State Taxes from VA to MD with our employers
  • Pick up pads for under our furniture so it doesn't scratch our beautiful new floors
  • Pick up granite sealer and grout sealer
  • Take everything off the walls in my apartment and cover up the holes
  • PACK!
Let me know if I missed anything.

Construction Update - Week 14

We're closing in exactly 3 weeks with our new home orientation in a little over 2 weeks.  All of the major things are complete in the house now with just finishing touches to go.  At this point we're just so excited and happy with how our house turned out.  We can't wait to close and move out of our apartment and into our first house!

We walked through yesterday and really fell in love with our house.  Sure there's still items that the crew is working to correct prior to our orientation, but at this point we have a really good idea of what our house will look like when its complete and it is beautiful.  Now we just have to work on furnishing and decorating it!  Anyway onto the pictures...

Basement
Our floor plan is the Strauss with basement level entry and rear loading two car garage.  We entered through the rec room on the basement.  In here we opted for a completely open rec room, a powder room instead of a closet, and hardwood stairs.  We also chose the Armstrong Rural Living Engineered Hardwood in Rich Brown for the flooring and we ended up with crown molding.

Kitchen & Main Floor
As you come up the stairs from the basement you enter the kitchen and main floor.  For the kitchen our community included granite, a few different cabinets with hardware, and stainless appliances.  The granite we chose is Santa Cecilia and the cabinets are Lausanne in Espresso.  We also added a hutch and backsplash.  We continued the Armstrong Rural Living Engineered Hardwood in Rich Brown for the flooring throughout the main floor.

Guest Bathroom
In our Guest Bath we opted for basic tile with a listello.  We are really happy with how this turned out so hopefully we can keep the white tile clean.

Guest Bedroom & Office
We have two guest bedrooms on the upper level.  One will be used as an office for now.  In these rooms the only change we made was to add ceiling fan rough-ins.  The carpet in all of the bedrooms is Shaw Graystone in Venetian Tile.

Construction Update - Week 13

We went to house this weekend and they were actively working on the floors so we didn't spend much time inside but it looked great. They were also grading our front yard. Our lights were working, our door frame was up, our deck was complete, our driveway was complete, and our appliances were in. It really coming together. We can't wait to go this weekend and check out our floors!
